Conjunto Rovira
Doug Beavers y su Conjunto Rovira carries the Afro-Cuban, Afro-Carribean and “Nuyorican” traditions by performing a gritty, swinging variety of salsa that is at once spontaneous and tightly executed, always leaving room for improvised and heart-pounding moñas (riffs) that drive audiences out of their seats. Their brand of energetic salsa is woven together in the fabric of Doug Beavers’ lushly arranged and orchestrated compositions and arrangements.
The tightly-knit conjunto (ensemble) features top international talent; flautist John Calloway (Conjunto Libre), trumpet phenom Mike Olmos (Etta James), Marco Diaz and Saul Sierra on piano and bass, respectively (John Santos), timbalero Eric Rangel (Conjunto Cespedes), congeros Karl Perazo (Santana) and Sean Zuniga (La Verdad), with featured vocalist Carlos Rosario (Chino Nuñez). Doug Beavers, an Eddie Palmieri La Perfecta II alumnus and Grammy® winner for his work on Palmieri’s 2006 release Listen Here, handles the work of steering the conjunto’s trail blazing arrangements and compositions.
These “potent sounds of Conjunto Rovira” (Jesse “Chuy” Varela, Latin Beat) have drawn wide critical acclaim, earning them an interview with the globally-distributed magazine Latin Beat and headlining status at various venues. Doug Beavers y su Conjunto Rovira recently headlined the 7th Annual San Francisco International Salsa Congress and were called on for a featured engagement at Yoshi’s San Francisco in 2008.
